Intimate class sizes, experienced professors, and real world application meet in the Bachelor of Science in Foods and Nutrition at the University of Prince Edward Island. This accredited program prepares students for their future, opening doors to careers as sports nutritionists, registered dietitians, food scientists, product developers, policy makers, and countless other paths.

Get hands-on experience in your field to set you apart from the pack through honours options, case studies, internships, and research opportunities. Sixty to eighty percent of third-year applicants are accepted into our accredited internship program, which sees students placed in a variety of positions in industry, public health, and health care institutions. Many of our students are awarded summer placements with department professors, engaging in cutting-edge research in areas such as chronic disease prevention, food product development, childhood nutrition, and food security. Cross-disciplinary opportunities are also offered through collaboration with Kinesiology and Family Science faculty. The Co-op option is available to full-time students in the Foods and Nutrition program (excluding dietetic option). Applications to the Co-op Education Program are normally made after completion of the first year of study. Credits earned through completion of work terms are counted as general electives.

Applicants are required to have successful completion of Grade 12 examinations in a University Preparatory Program with an overall average of at least 70% (75% for Quebec Secondary V students) in the following subjects: Grade 12 Academic English, Grade 12 Academic Mathematics, two Grade 12 Academic Science subjects (acceptable subjects: Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Computer Science, Oceanography, Animal Science, Environmental Science), and one additional Grade 12 Academic course.

Application Notes : The language of instruction at the University of Prince Edward Island is English. All academically admissible applicants, regardless of their country of origin or citizenship status, are required to demonstrate proficiency in the English language prior to undertaking studies at the University of Prince Edward Island. Proficiency may be demonstrated by: 1. Three years of full-time study in English in Canada or in another country where English is a principal language (as recognized by UPEI) - evidence of bilingualism (English and another language) is acceptable for those applicants educated in Canada in a language other than English; OR 2. Submission of an official test score at or above the acceptable minimum, such as: IELTS (Academic) - overall score of 6.5 with 6.5 in writing no other band below 6; TOEFL paper-based test - 550 with minimum TWE of 5.5; TOEFL internet-based test - 80 with minimum of 20 in each category; MELAB - 80; CanTEST - 4.5; CAEL - 60; Pearson Test of English - 58; Cambridge Advanced English - CAE A-C: 176-184 after Jan 1/15; or Eiken - Pre-1.
