Managers in Public Administration

(NOC 41)

These comments are for the career group Managers in Public Administration.

Retirements will be the primary source of job openings. Workers in this occupation are generally older and retire earlier than those in other occupations; therefore, the retirement rate in this occupation will be higher than the occupational average. Over the 2011-2020 period, the retirement rate in this occupation will be one of the highest among all the occupations.

Job openings resulting from expansion demand will be fewer in number than over the 1999-2008 period. In fact, after seeing fairly rapid employment growth in recent years due to a rise in government spending, this occupation will experience growth similar to the average of all occupations over the 2011-2020 period.

Given that many years of experience are required to obtain a senior management position, it is not surprising that a large number of job seekers will come from other occupations (mobility). Less than 20% of job seekers will come from the school system, and several of them are experienced workers which have return to school to increase their skills.
