Offering 71 majors, concentrations, and programs of study, Jacksonville University allows students to choose from a wide range of academic possibilities. At the same time, the University provides a small, supportive learning environment with a total enrollment of 3,000 students and average class size of 18. The University is committed to "engaged learning", involving students in hands on projects inside and outside of the classroom. Students participate in internships, undergraduate research with faculty, study abroad, and independent study projects. Centrally located on the banks of the St. Johns River, close to downtown Jacksonville, students have access to a major Florida city for internships, research projects, and recreation. On campus, the University offers NCAA Division I sports, and 100 student run clubs and organizations. Most students live on campus in University housing.

The University offers traditional residence halls with double rooms, suites, and single rooms. On-campus apartments for upperclassmen are also provided. The policy for the 2006-2007 school year will require first and second year students under the age of 21 to live on campus.

Incoming Students

Peer mentors in the residence halls help first year students adjust to college life and living away from home for the first time. The University assigns each student an international student advisor and academic advisor. Students who need additional academic support may also seek help from tutors, a Study Skills Center, Math Center, and Writing Center. First year students are also welcome to take advantage of our Study Abroad Program. Students who are especially academically talented, may be invited to join the University Honors Program.

Career Planning

The Office of Career Services assists students by planning two major career fairs each year, offering resume workshops, and helping students find internships and permanent employment.

Sports

A wide range of intramural sports are offered. Intercollegiate sports are NCAA Division I (Football IAA).

Information Technology

All students have access to e-mail and the Internet in computer labs located throughout campus. Each residence hall room has ports for every student. Students must provide their own computers if they wish to have access in their rooms.

Cultural

Most international students join the International Student Association. Students may also join Dolphin Diversity or other clubs that are involved in celebrating cultural heritage and all forms of diversity.

Special Services

Accommodations are provided to students with disabilities through the Student Life Office. We also offer personal counseling services through the Counseling Office and Academic Counseling through the Office of Academic Advising.

Affiliated Institutions

JU has an articulation agreement with the Florida community colleges. Students who complete their Associate of Arts degree at a Florida community college prior to transferring to JU will be granted credit for the JU core curriculum.

International Involvement

The Study Abroad Office on campus provides programs and counseling for students who wish to study abroad or complete community service abroad. The International Student Association on campus is very active.

We offer tours most weekdays (except holidays) at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
