Profile

Established in 1981, Dorset College is one of the oldest and largest private international colleges in Vancouver, British Columbia. Dorset College has provided over 24 years of exceptional post-secondary education for international students from around the globe. Dorset College places the needs of students first by providing a friendly environment that stresses English proficiency and academic success.

Areas of Expertise

One of Dorset's most prominent programs is the university transfer program, wherein students have the opportunity to transfer course credits towards a bachelor's degree at partnering public Canadian universities (Cape Breton University (CBU), Acadia, and Dalhousie).

Homestay is a wonderful opportunity to practice speaking English and learn about Canadian culture while living in the home of a Canadian family. Dorset College encourages students to live in homestay, because each student will have a private, furnished bedroom, three meals each day, and will have the opportunity to learn about Canadian life through interaction with his/her Canadian family.

Incoming Students

During the first week of each semester, Dorset College holds an Opening Ceremony. At this event, students are given information about Vancouver and Canadian culture, and about the school and the services provided. Dorset College also takes this opportunity to present qualified students at each level with a scholarship for academic excellence from the previous semester.

Career Planning

Each semester, Dorset College provides students the chance to get involved with their community by volunteering at local organizations. Dorset College also provides co-operative work experience through some of our programs. Both of these valuable opportunities allow Dorset students to help others, gain resume building experience, and learn new skills.

Activities

Dorset College organizes social events and extra curricular activities year round. Outings such as snowshoeing, skiing, hiking, horseback riding, skating, badminton, golf, and tennis, as well as visits to tourist attractions and restaurants around Vancouver are arranged for students.

Information Technology

Dorset offers the latest equipment in their computer labs. Students can access the Internet from the labs or from the computers in the library. Students also have access to a variety of computer software.

Special Services

Dorset College offers counselling in the choice of programs as well as in personal matters. Staff and senior students are pleased to offer beginner students assistance in their native language. They offer interpretation services in Japanese, Cantonese, Mandarin, Korean, Spanish, French, German, and Vietnamese. They can also help students open a bank account in Vancouver by providing information and documents.

Affiliated Institutions

Dorset College continues to have close relationships and agreements with Cape Breton University, Dalhousie University, Acadia University, and BCIT.
