The pre-law minor can be declared with almost any undergraduate major—from engineering to history, finance to professional writing. You’ll then be assigned a faculty advisor who will work with you from day one until you graduate. The advisor will help you design a program of study that will prepare you for the rigors of law school.

You’ll take a mix of challenging classes with strong research and writing components. Your academic progress will be closely monitored to make sure your GPA remains solid. Our professors go above and beyond to provide extra help and tutoring if needed. You’ll also have access to study sessions, pre-law activities, and other assistance in preparation for the LSAT exam.

If you plan to attend ONU Law, you’ll have an inside track. We give preferential treatment for admission to all students enrolled in the 3+3 program.

As part of the pre-law minor, you’re not a number, you’re part of a family. You’ll enjoy small class sizes and amazing friendships. Your professors will be able to write heartfelt letters of recommendation because they will truly know you and your abilities.

3+3 = Opportunity

Through this program, you can complete your bachelor’s degree and juris doctorate degree in just six years instead of seven. You not only save on tuition costs, you enter the workforce earlier.

The 3+3 program is offered with the following ONU undergraduate majors: Accounting (BSBA); Finance (BSBA); Management (BSBA); Marketing (BSBA); Chemistry (BA); Criminal Justice (BA); History (BA); Literature (BA); Philosophy (BA); Philosophy, Politics and Economics (BA); Political Science (BA); Psychology (BA); Religion (BA); Sociology (BA) and Theatre (BA). These programs have designed a course of study that you can complete in three years and that prepares you for the rigors of law school.

You need to be a committed student to participate in the 3 + 3 program. You will not be able to pursue a double major or minor if you choose this path. However, you will be able to take full advantage of the many academic and extracurricular activities that ONU offers.

In the last 60 years, more than 400 Ohio Northern University undergraduate students have gone on to attend Ohio Northern University Pettit College of Law and now practice across the country. They serve in the legal field & in law firms as attorneys, partners, judges, government administrators, business directors, CEOs, professors and more.

Let's Debate

We have an impressive mock trial program, and our teams compete across the midwest. In fact, in the past five years, we’ve garnered 45 individual or team awards at midwest competitions. Participating in mock trial is excellent preparation for becoming an attorney. You’ll learn how to examine witnesses, analyze evidence, adhere to the federal rules of evidence, and present opening and closing arguments.
