About your course

Our MSc Management course comprises six compulsory modules that delve into essential areas including finance, strategy, decision making, entrepreneurship, and operations. This robust foundation facilitates a deep comprehension of management fundamentals. As you progress, you'll have the opportunity to tailor your learning journey via a selection of optional modules, aligning your studies with your personal interests and career aspirations. The final part of the course is a project, where you'll apply the skills and knowledge acquired to tackle a specific management issue or problem. This project will underscore your ability to address issues, critique relevant literature, collect and analyse data, manage change processes, and substantiate your recommendations and conclusions.

This module equips future managers with the quantitative tools to help them make rational decisions under uncertain conditions. The module develops students ability to apply statistical techniques to a wide range of business and management problems in a structured way. Students will gain an appreciation of the appropriateness of different techniques in a given situation. The module develops the students understanding of the tools and their application with use of software packages and SPSS.

This module aims to develop students knowledge and understanding of the concepts, tools and methodologies of operations management. Students will develop critical and analytical insights into current operations management practices, explore the priorities and techniques of operations management and employ these to the design, operation and control of business processes.

This module provides students with a means of developing further the skills and knowledge gained on MSc Management, by application to a specific organisational issue or problem. It enables students to demonstrate proficiency in the design of a business enhancement project, application of appropriate methods of investigation, management of the change process, and maintenance of vision in the face of the vicissitudes of business realities.

The aim of this module is to develop an understanding of the major issues in corporate finance. In particular it develops the student’s ability to analyse corporate finance issues; apply finance theories to deal with practical issues in corporate finance; and investigate emerging issues and contemporary trends in the field.

This module will inform students of the key developments in, and thinking from, the study of strategy and leadership. The module aims to explore the models, tools and theories used in strategy and leadership and critically appraise where and when such models, tools and theories are effective. The central aim of the module is to achieve a balance between theory and practice and to use strategy and leadership tools to address the complexity and uncertainty facing organisations.

This Module will equip students with an overview of emerging technological trends and how organizations can exploit technologies for competitive advantage. The complexities of technologies, the systems and how these have changed the way organization function will be analysed to elicit the value added.

Optional

This module aims to present the international nature of business supply chains and how companies work in a global marketplace. Students develop a critical understanding of the theories and practices of how companies grow and manage their global supply chains. The module enhances students understanding of business competitiveness in global marketplaces. Students will be taught the underlying theories that will enable them to evaluate the choices given by organizations and how these are linked to the management of these international networks.

This module introduces students from a variety of backgrounds and with different career ambitions to the project management techniques and how they are used across a range of sectors to realise strategic corporate objectives. In particular, the module aims to: - offer a comprehensive account of project management, programme management and project portfolios, based on a combination of scholarly work and professional practice - develop students understanding of strategic project management and systems design processes - outline and develop skills in professional techniques used in project closure and evaluation - introduce and evaluate critical success factors for projects.

This module explores the major concepts, models, tools, and metrics used in management analytics for overseeing management related projects. Specifically, in the first part of the module students will be equipped with building blocks of management analytics. In the second part, the module will provide students with fundamental machine learning concepts and techniques, which are most applicable to management research.

This module is designed to equip students with consultancy skills within organisations. The module will focus on developing strategic consultancy skills, diagnostic techniques, group dynamics, communicating strategies, managing interventions and change management. It will enable students to apply the key skills required in varying contexts to ensure that the clients are offered effective and practical advice.

Teaching and learning

Teaching

You'll be taught by an experienced teaching team with a wide range of expertise and professional experience.

You'll attend lectures, including talks by guest speakers, as well as seminars and workshops, some of which will focus on research methods.

These sessions will involve peer group interaction and aim to sharpen both your critical and analytical skills. You will also work on case studies to enhance your understanding of practice situations and undertake directed reading and study, including online activity.

The course is delivered by our academics and industry partners in person and via digital platforms. Our learning activities include lectures, presentations, webinars, one-to-one tutorials and group projects.

You'll be taught by an experienced teaching team with a wide range of expertise and professional experience. Your personal tutor will support you with help and advice throughout your studies.

Learning terms

On-campus: This includes tutor-led sessions such as seminars, lab sessions and demonstrations as well as student-led sessions for work in small groups.

Online learning: This is teaching that is delivered online using tools like Skype or Zoom, as well as work that you do yourself using online teaching resources.

Independent study: This is the work you do in your own time including reading and research.

Part-time study

You can also study this course part-time.

You will be studying at our leafy north London campus in Hendon.

You'll be assessed through a combination of exams plus individual and group coursework. One of the key elements of coursework will be your dissertation project.

We have a strong support network online and on campus to help you develop your academic skills. Our Sheppard Library is open 24 hours a day during term time and always available online. We offer one-to-one and group sessions to develop your learning skills together with academic support from our library, IT teams and learning experts.

Feedback

You'll evaluate your work, skills and knowledge and identify areas for improvement. Sometimes you'll work in groups and assess each other's progress.

  • An honours degree (2:2 or above) accompanied by two or more years of relevant business experience, ideally in fields that demand quantitative skills such as economics, statistics, finance, analytics, or operations
  • Graduate-level professional qualifications, with a preference for those that encompass quantitative aspects such as financial certification, data science qualifications, or engineering degrees.

If you have relevant qualifications or work experience, we may be able to count this towards your entry requirements.

Mature students (over 21)

We welcome applications from mature candidates, including those without formal qualifications if you can demonstrate relevant experience and ability.

Qualifications

English language

You'll need good English language skills to study with us. That's usually an IELTS 6.0 qualification (with a minimum of 5.5 in all sections). And, if you need help, we offer an intensive pre-sessional English course.

To study with us in the UK, you will need a student route visa.

Part-time study

International applicants can apply for a Student Route Visa (formerly tier 4) for part-time postgraduate study (courses leading to a qualification at RQF level 7 or SCQF level 11 and above).

Student route visa students studying part-time are subject to certain restrictions:

  • No work (paid or unpaid)
  • No work placements as part of the programme
  • No dependents
  • No extending under Student route visa in the UK. This includes Student route visa applications to work as a Students' Union Sabbatical Officer or for the Foundation Programme for postgraduate doctors and dentists
  • Not eligible for the Student route visa Doctorate Extension Scheme.

*Please note that, if the course of your choice involves work experience, unpaid work, placements or internships, we will be unable to sponsor you to study a part-time course under the Student route (formerly tier 4) visa.
