Program Description
The Master of Information Studies (M.I.St.) Information Studies (Non-Thesis) offered by the School of Information Studies in the Faculty of Arts is a course-based program that emphasizes in-depth and forward-thinking learning opportunities. The program's objective is to equip students with skills in data collection, analysis, and information management to pursue professional opportunities (or potentially continue their studies).
The program is available as one of two options:
Course Work option: focuses on the intellectual foundations for careers as information professionals, competencies in managing information and knowledge resources, equal access to information, the appropriate use of technology in meeting information needs, research in the field of library and information studies, and commitment to professional service for individuals, organizations and society.
Project option: similar to the Course Work option, though there is a research project component of 15 credits.

Unique Program Features
- Throughout their course-work students work on real-world problems and can also elect to participate in our practicum course, which offers a supervised learning opportunity in an information organization for academic credit;
- Program courses are available in areas such as library studies, knowledge management, archival studies, User Experience (UX) and Data Science. Additionally, students have the flexibility to focus on one area of interest or combine courses from across information studies domains;
- Our School offers American Library Associated accredited master’s program that represent an effective balance between theory and practice;
- We are one of the oldest School's of Information Studies in Canada (founded in 1897) and is affiliate member of the iSchools, an international consortium dedicated to leading and promoting the information field.
University-Level Admission Requirements
- An eligible Bachelor's degree with a minimum 3.0 GPA out of a possible 4.0 GPA
- English-language proficiency
