Program Description

If you’re looking for a career in the business world, SIIT’s Business Program will get you started!

The Business Program will provide a general overview of the major business functions within small, medium and large companies or organizations. It is a full time program with options to graduate after year one with a certificate, a two year diploma- or transfer directly into a degree program- with partnering institutions such as the University of Saskatchewan Edwards School of Business, University of Lethbridge, or the First Nations University of Canada. The Business Program is available at our campuses in Prince Albert, Saskatoon, and Regina, and in select community locations.

Completing this program will allow you to begin your career as a business professional in a wide range of sectors and in specialized fields such as: Accounting, Finance, HR, Management, Marketing, or Entrepreneurship.

    • Math: Workplace and Apprenticeship 30

2nd Year (Business Diploma) Pre-Requisites

Successful completion of the one-year Business Certificate.

Acceptance Policy

Strong preference is given to applicants who are Status First Nations, but SIIT programs are open to anyone.

English Language Benchmark

SIIT is not currently legislated to accept International Students. You must be a Canadian/ Permanent Resident to apply.

To be admitted into this program you must be able to understand and communicate in English (Canadian Language Benchmark Assessment of six – CLB6).

Additional Fees- U-Pass - Saskatoon and Regina Transit Bus Passes
UPass
$278.00 per year The U-Pass is a City Transit bus pass for students that allow you to save on transportation costs. The U-Pass fee is provided at a reduced cost compared to a standard monthly City Transit pass and is mandatory for most SIIT students in Saskatoon and Regina. You may use the U-Pass as many times as you would like during the academic term. Students who meet certain requirements can opt-out of the U-Pass. Please contact the Admissions department for more information.

What to Expect

Day to Day

Delivery Method
  • Primarily in-class instruction, Monday to Friday, 6 hours per day.
  • 5-10 hours per week of independent (homework learning) and group learning.
  • (Optional) Co-op Program

You will gain practical knowledge and theory, while applying what you have learned to group and individual assignments. These projects influence change at SIIT and in the community, and have included: student leadership governance development, pay it forward campaigns, installation of environmentally friendly water bottle refill stations, and the construction of a Pride Centre.

Work Integrated Learning

An optional Co-op program is available for SIIT Business students.

Attendance Policy

Regular attendance is essential for academic success. Each program has specific attendance requirements that must be adhered to in order to graduate.

If you have been approved for funding, you must maintain the attendance required by your sponsoring agency to remain eligible to receive payment.

Graduation Requirements and Credential

You must maintain a GPA of 60% to graduate with a Business Certificate (Year One) or a Business Diploma (Year Two). Graduates will receive a Business Certificate or Diploma, and an SIIT Transcript.

Completing the Business Certificate or Diploma program at SIIT will allow you to begin your career as a business professional in a wide range of sectors and in specialized fields such as: Accounting, Finance, HR, Management, Marketing, or Entrepreneurship.

Depending on your desired career path and previous experience, there are a broad range of NOC codes that describe a career suitable for business graduates. In Saskatchewan, average salaries for business, finance, administrative, and management occupations range from $28,000 – $155,000 per year (https://www.saskatchewan.ca/business/hire-train-and-manage-employees/labour-market-information).
