Requirements for accreditation
This course is designed to satisfy the requirements for accreditation as a Chartered Engineer . As such, it will help you develop your career as a leader in design, construction and management operations within civil engineering.

As part of this course, you’ll:

  • Develop your technical ability, understanding of engineering principles, commercial flair and environmental awareness
  • Study an advanced course that will equip you with the technical and practical skills to contribute effectively in a wide range of industry settings
  • Be taught by staff with professional experience in a broad range of subjects including transportation, geotechnical engineering, structural engineering and water engineering
  • Investigate contemporary research and engineering solutions designed to meet global challenges, such as the climate change emergency
  • Complete advanced laboratory studies and use industry standard IT  design software

Specialist facilities
You’ll have access to first-class teaching laboratories, including a full range of civil engineering testing equipment for hydraulics, geotechnics, highway materials, concrete, structures and general materials. Our civil engineering research facility is dedicated to the research work of students and staff and will be available to play a major role in your dissertation project.

Hands-on learning
You’ll be encouraged and guided as you plan your own objectives for career development. We’ll help you set up visits to sites and consultancy offices to aid your development. Engineering experts will share their expertise and experience in a series of guest talks. We’ll also encourage you to research and discuss current civil engineering issues on a regular basis.

We have close links with the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE). The body was formed more than 200 years ago and is one of the world’s most respected professional engineering associations.
