Organizational Behaviour

Overview

No matter where your career takes you, a major in Organizational Behaviour will give you the tools and knowledge to lead creatively and work with others effectively. As an Organizational Behaviour student, you will gain insight into the complexities of human behaviour in organizations at the individual and group levels.

With courses in leadership, team management, negotiation, and more, you will develop a critical understanding of management along with practical skills to help you achieve your goals while working with others. These skills will be useful in group projects and professional relationships as well as in your future career. Gain a foundational disciplinary view of the field by specializing in one of the following social science disciplines: sociology, anthropology, or psychology.

The Organizational Behaviour Concentration will help you increase your awareness of behavioural issues across organizational settings, and prepare you for graduate study in the behavioural sciences or any career that involves working with people.

Organizational Behavior (OB) focuses on activity-based and experiential learning in group and smaller class contexts. OB students receive more individualized attention from faculty and have multiple experiential learning options. By requiring a disciplinary specialization via courses in one of Sociology, Psychology, or Anthropology, OB majors also enjoy a more integrated McGill experience.

Some examples of the experiential learning opportunities OB students enjoy include:

  • Students in our Negotiations & Conflict Resolution (ORGB 325) class have documented thousands of dollars in personal savings while taking the class by applying course techniques in the real world.
  • Our Leadership Practicum in Social Sector Organizations (ORGB 401) help students make the world a better place, starting locally.
  • In our Israel Study Trip (ORGB 434, in collaboration with FINE 434), our students and their peers from a partner Israeli university enact the roles of startup workers while comparing the entrepreneurship contexts of Canada and Israel.
