University of New Brunswick Saint John's BBA students who major in Human Resource Management learn about the personal – and personnel – side of business.

Our graduates are well-prepared for human resource positions in both private and public sector organizations, where they become involved with people-related aspects of the workplace such as: job satisfaction, employee and employer rights, workplace deviance, the positive and negative impacts and implications of unions, employee compensation, and the importance of recruitment, selection, and training of new employees.

How does it work?

In the BBA program, you must complete a minimum of eight term courses (24 credit hours). Six of these are compulsory; the remaining two courses must be chosen from available electives.

  • Introduction to Human Resource Management
  • Introduction to Industrial Relations
  • Business Research Methods
  • Strategic Human Resource Policy

Electives may include:

  • Negotiations and Dispute Resolution

  • Compensation Structure Development
  • Evaluating and Rewarding Employee Performance
  • Or other HRM related courses

Certificate in Human Resource Management:

The Certificate in Human Resource Management is a good choice for those with an HR background, or those who already have a degree and would like to gain more awareness of the HR area.

Work toward your professional designation

Completion of a bachelor's degree is one of the four requirements in obtaining the Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation. This is a nationally recognized certification in the field of human resources, and it establishes the standards and goals of HR management in business.

BBA with a Major in Human Resource Management: Eligibility for National Accreditation

The Faculty of Business UNBSJ has signed an Accreditation Agreement with the Chartered Professionals in Human Resources NB. Under this agreement, students who graduate with a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) with a Major in Human Resources Management (HRM) are eligible to waive the National Knowledge Exam (NKE) administered by CPHR NB and the CPHR Canada under the following circumstances:

  • Students must graduate from the BBA degree program with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.7(B-) and must have successfully completed at least two electives chosen from BA4853, BA4854, BA4855 and BA4857 as part of their HRM major.
  • Students are responsible for submitting the NKE waiver application form and related fee to CPHR New Brunswick.
