Our master’s in environmental health starts with 6 foundational public health classes. In these courses, you’ll study topics such as biostatistics, epidemiology, public health administration, and principles of environmental health. You’ll also examine the various behavioral, social, and cultural factors that impact the development of public health programs and policies. Additionally, by exploring how to use proper research methods and statistical testing in public health, you can prepare to make great strides in this field and contribute to the current body of knowledge.

Through the environmental health specialization, you can learn to evaluate environmental effects on a community’s health and apply best practices to improve the health of those around you. In particular, you’ll explore:

  • Agencies that administer various health and environmental programs to prevent or control hazards in communities
  • Dangerous environmental chemicals and the implications of being exposed to these toxins
  • Environmental hygiene and health problems related to water supply and sanitation
  • General principles and practices of environmental health risk assessment for toxic exposures in the environment and interactions with other factors contributing to human health risks
  • How legal and regulatory frameworks are developed to protect public health
  • The biological, chemical, and physical characteristics of water and its relationship to human health
  • Tools for addressing fundamental water and sanitation issues in global settings, especially in lesser economically developed countries

To round out your studies, you will complete a practicum at an approved site near you. You’ll also be able to select 2 health elective courses – so you can broaden your horizons and explore the topics that best align with your interests and career goals.
