Composition (MMus)
Our composition program has a reputation for experimentation, innovation, and theoretical rigour.
Known for the support of composers from diverse backgrounds, our students have ample opportunities to research instrumental, improvisational and new media compositions.
You will work under faculty supervision on a thesis composition in addition to seminars in theory, musicology and music technology.
Our graduates go on to careers as professional composers, form ensembles and hold academic positions at universities around the world.

Outcomes
Students in this program will:
- develop and defend personal musical perspectives
- investigate new and experimental forms of music making
- demonstrate technical and professional skills for self-expression and collaboration
- develop an understanding of contemporary musical forms, processes and structures
- develop the ability to place music in historical, cultural, and stylistic contexts
- develop the ability to discover parallels between music and other disciplines
