Work experience while you study

The Career Boost program prepares you for volunteer or part-time paid positions that complement your studies. You’ll learn writing tips for job applications, build leadership and public speaking skills and meet one-on-one with employers in your industry. Once you graduate, the Career Centre will continue to help you until you are employed full-time.

You’ll graduate into a high opportunity industry, with over 3,300 jobs predicted for the next ten years in B.C. Plus, the median salary in B.C. for HR professionals is $79,000 per year.

One step closer to receiving a Chartered Professionals in Human Resources (CPHR) designation

CPHR BC & Yukon offers five pathways to earn the CPHR designation, which is the only nationally recognized HR designation in Canada. Benefits of obtaining the CPHR designation include credibility, career advancement, higher salaries and more. • Make note of courses that are not offered every term to adjust their plans accordingly,
    • Take all pre-requisites prior to attempting to register for a given course, and
    • Understand which courses have additional minimum grade requirements in the prerequisites.
      • While C- is the normal minimum grade needed to be achieved in a pre-requisite course, some courses require higher grades in the pre-requisite course.
      • Students must know which courses require higher grades in the pre-requisite course so that they can achieve the necessary grade.
      • If students do not obtain the required grade in a pre-requisite course, students must retake the pre-requisite course to earn the grade required.
  2. COBA 4885 (Experiential Learning and Internship) provides the opportunity for students to gain unpaid work experience and course credit. This program is not eligible for Internship for international students. Domestic students may take COBA 4885 as an additional course that does not count towards the 30 credits requirement for this program. Students who would like to find out more about internship should email the careercentre@douglascollege.ca at the start of their program.
  3. For replacement courses, students must:
    • Work within the requirement that, at least, 50% (15 credits) of the coursework in the post-degree diploma is at the 3000/4000 level;
