Overview
The psychology behind why individuals become criminals and why people are attracted to those with deviant behaviours will be studied. This program will appeal to individuals who are working or volunteering in a corrections program, working or volunteering at a women's shelter, working with youth at risk or individuals who have a special interest in criminal psychology and behaviour.
To successfully complete the program, participants must complete six (6) compulsory courses.

- The demand for part-time courses has increased to the point that we recommend you register early to ensure your acceptance into the course.

Identify the characteristics of the criminal mind. Investigate issues discussed in Criminal Psychology Psychopathic Minds and examine psychological models related to criminology.
This course will examine conflict resolution strategies and whether they work to reduce incidents of violent behaviour such as abuse relationships, confrontation in the workplace and violence in schools.
Sexual violence is an ugly reality and a societal concern. This course will examine the many forms of sexual violence perpetrated by individuals. Students will study sexual violence in the context of male toward female, female toward male, as well as incest and child abuse in families. Reasons for sexually deviant behaviours (why individuals do what they do), and the latest approaches and strategies for treating both victims and perpetrators will be examined.
This online course provides an overview of how individuals can become addicted to others and relationships. It will examine the personalities of abusers and those who are abused. How individuals with complimentary personality disorders unite and form bonds will be examined. Object Relations Theory and how women and men are unconsciously drawn to abusive partners because of personality disorders caused by childhood abuse or neglect will be the focal point of this course. Students will learn how individuals with co-dependent personalities can become capable of breaking free from the cycle many get caught in.
In this course, students will explore the historical evolution and social impact of cults and terrorist groups. Students will learn ways to identify and define cults. Using discussions and active learning approaches, students will examine what motivates cults and terrorist groups with a specific lens towards violent activity.
Personality psychology is a branch of psychology that defines what personality is and how it influences our behaviour and actions. This course will seek to understand how personality is developed. Through an examination of current research and theories, the course will explore patterns of thoughts, feelings, and behavior that make a person unique. Personality assessment and intelligence testing will be explored.

Admission Requirements
Applicants to the program must hold an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (O.S.S.D.) or equivalent or must qualify for mature student status (19 years of age or older).
Career Opportunities
Graduates from the program may find employment opportunities with policing in victim support and group homes. This program enhances the knowledge and skill set of individuals who work or want to work within human service, social work or legal and justice settings where an understanding in criminal behaviour would be an asset.
