Description: The four-semester (16-month) program prepares students for a career as a human resources professional with basic business knowledge to enter or re-enter the workforce quickly. Description: The two-semester (8-month) program is an integrative certificate that allows students to continue their education focused on the expanding field of Environmental Science. Description: The two-semester (8-month) program is a multidisciplinary program that provides students with a wide variety of course options related to the field of Health Sciences. The certificate approaches the topic of Health Sciences from the viewpoint of multiple disciplines (Biology, Psychology, Philosophy, Sociology) and allows students to customize the certificate to their particular career goals and interests.

Description: It’s nearly impossible to think of any aspect of modern business that does not rely on Information and Communication Technology (ICT). ICT capability is an essential element of business success and jobs with these high-demand skills are continuing to expand rapidly. Designed for students with a bachelor’s degree or college diploma outside of the field, our graduate Graduate Certificate in Information Technology will provide you with the specialist skills you need to ignite your career in ICT. You will gain essential skills in programming, software development, object-oriented analysis and design, web technologies and databases, e-business strategy, and project management, which will complement your existing critical thinking and communication abilities. Information and Communication Technology skills can improve job prospects as well as productivity for those already involved in the field.

This program operates some courses in a condensed format, where you will engage in intensive learning for shorter periods of time. This will allow you to obtain prerequisite knowledge early into the start of the program, and ensures the program can be completed in just 8 months! Interested applicants should be prepared to have classes scheduled up to 5 days per week, particularly in their first semester of study.

Have you completed a 1-Year Graduate Certificate at Algoma University and would like to pursue another? We would love to have you back!

Students who have earned/are on track to earn a graduate certificate may be interested in a related program, resulting in an overlap of program elements. While we do not permit students to retain credit more than once for the same course, we have worked with each department to ensure appropriate course substitutions have been defined. Undergraduate Certificates

Undergraduate certificates are ideal for students who wish to pursue an additional credential over the course of their degree program in a different discipline, or for students who wish to attend part-time to work towards a credential. These certificates are only available on a part-time basis and are intended to complement a student’s other credentials.

Note: Students who enroll in an undergraduate certificate while completing their degree will not be eligible to obtain a minor in the same discipline.

The Aviation Management Certificate (AMC) is a one year (three semester) certificate that is designed to meet the growing demands in the aviation industry.

The certificate provides both flight (Brampton) and non-flight (Sault Ste. Marie and Brampton) options, with current courses relevant to the aviation industry and external certification opportunities you can pursue!

The AMC allows professionals with college-level education to upgrade their skills to the university level without a commitment of 3-4 years.

For high school students, the AMC presents an excellent opportunity to learn and develop aviation industry specific skills. The certificate is also ideal for aviation professionals looking to upgrade their skills and abilities to management level allowing for more opportunities for professional development within their current and/or future organization.

International Admissions are unique to International Curriculums with English language requirements.
Admissions are based on secondary school credentials. Domestic students require a minimum average of 70% required, with Six Grade 12 U/M courses including ENG4U and two U/M MATH (MDM4U recommended). Start classes in September, January, or May. There are limited spots available in the Aviation Management Certificate at the Brampton and Sault Ste. Marie campuses.

As the first university in Ontario to offer esports programming, Algoma University School of Business and Economics is launching The Business of Esports Certificate in September 2022. This certificate is a one year, two semester, program that will provide the relevant skills to an esports enthusiast looking to work in the esport industry as well as entrepreneurs who want to develop their own personal brand within the industry.

The Business of Esports graduates will receive a certificate in The Business of Esports. The 10 course (30 credit) certificate, provides those interested in working and managing the business side of esports an opportunity to acquire the skills, knowledge and abilities they will need to be successful in this industry.

The Business of Esports certificate will provide students with current courses relevant to the needs of the esports industry. Our students will have contact with, and access to, subject matter experts who have real-world relevant experience and networking opportunities that will enhance their careers. Students in this program will have the opportunity to participate in academic esports events and tournaments and gain valuable knowledge through experiential learning opportunities.

A stand-alone certificate in Community Economic and Social Development is available to non-CESD majors and provides academic and professional experience in the field. The Certificate in CESD will consist of 30 credits from CESD 1006, 1007, 2016, 2106, 2406, 2607, CESD 3016, 3017, and 6 additional credits CESD, upper year.

The FNSPCD certificate is a stand-alone certificate relevant to learners interested in working in the area of social policy and community development in First Nation communities, such as social agency workers, ministry representatives, students interested in policy and social studies. This is a collaborative project of CESD and Ontario Native Welfare Administrators Association (ONWAA). The certificate may also act as a pathway for learners into the CESD or CDEV degree programs. The Certificate in FNSPCD will consist of 30 credits from CESD 1006 or 1007, 1206,1207, COSC 1701, CESD 2016, CESD 2306, CESD 2607 or CESD 2996, CESD 2206, CESD 3216 plus selection of 3 credits from the following list of courses: CESD 2017, 3456, CESD 3906/3907 Selected topics in CESD or a relevant course approved by the CESD Department.This certificate is open to all Algoma University Students. Courses include full-term onsite, one week condensed onsite, online and online hybrid.

The Certificate in Geomatics will consist of 30 credits from GEOG 1026/27, GEOG 2016/17, GEOG 2027, GEOG 3006/3037, GEOG 3046, GEOG 3076/3096, GEOG 4006. Students may choose from GEOG 4906/4907 or GEOG 3996/97 when geomatics-related topics are covered.

The Certificate in Akii and Environmental Stewardship will consist of 30 credits in total. Eighteen (18) credits are required from the following courses which correspond to the National Aboriginal Lands Managers Association’s (NALMA) Level I of the Professional Lands Management Certification Program (PLMCP): GEOG 2196, GEOG 2017, GEOG 3307, GEOG 4407, GEOG 4816, and GEOG 3016 or a Department of Geography approved Geography (GEOG) coded elective. For the additional twelve credits, students may select any four Geography (GEOG) coded three-credit courses (granted with the permission of the Department of Geography & Geology).

The 30 credit certificate program is designed to meet the needs of those with a desire to broaden their knowledge of the law at work in society, as well as law enforcement officers and government supervisory personnel working for the federal or provincial governments in parole or aftercare services. It allows a part-time student to pursue university-level upgrading without a commitment to a three-year or 90-credit program. A student in the program could, however, continue in a B.A. program without the need to repeat courses successfully completed.

The certificate program is open to fulltime and part-time students in Science, professional programs, and students in Arts, who are not Law and Justice majors, as well as graduates who wish to undertake additional study in the field of Law and Justice.

The certificate program comprises JURI 1106/1107, 2106, 2107 and 18 additional credits at the 2000 or 3000 level from the Law and Justice approved course list.

The Department of Law and Politics offers a ‘Certificate In Public Policy and Administration.’ Designed for students enrolled in other degree programmes and professionals/graduates already in the workforce wishing to acquire competency in Canadian Public Policy & Administration, the certificate contains foundational as well as advanced seminar-style courses in the ‘Canadian Government, Public Policy and Administration’ stream, and streams cognate (i.e. International Relations/ Comparative Politics stream). Students are permitted and encouraged to customize part of their Certificate by taking POLI courses that complement their degree major or professional aspirations, subject to programme guidelines. Students will receive the Certificate upon graduation from their Degree Program, or from graduation from the Certificate Program.

The Certificate Requirements include: POLI 1006, POLI 1007, POLI 2706, POLI 2707, POLI 3606, POLI 3607, and 12 additional upper level POLI credits (2000, 3000, or 4000 level) as determined in consultation with the Department.

The Certificate in Social Welfare may be taken as a stand-alone program or it may be taken in conjunction with a degree program in another subject. The certificate consists of 30 credits. All courses taken for the certificate may also count toward a BA or BSW degree program.
