Northern College is a post-secondary institution with four major campuses and numerous satellite locations serving a catchment area of 58,000 square miles covering northern and northeastern Ontario.

With over 75 full-time, part-time, certificate, diploma, and apprenticeship programs and hundreds of in-class, web-based, and correspondence courses, you are sure to find exactly what you are looking for. Northern also provides post-secondary and career-entrance preparation programs and academic upgrading to help you get where you want to go.

Areas of Expertise

Northern College's Schools of Veterinary Sciences, Health Sciences and Emergency Services, and Natural Resources are growing rapidly with hundreds of applications every year. Northern also excels at delivery career training in engineering technology, including welding engineering technology and instrumentation technician, as well as computer studies and trades programs.

On Campus Housing

Northern College has a residence at its Timmins campus, with 103 single rooms, 12 suites and four double rooms. There is a 34 room residence at its Kirkland Lake campus, and more rooms at the Haileybury Campus residence. As the demand for residence accommodation usually exceeds the spaces available, students are asked to return the residence application with a $250.00 deposit fee as early as possible.

Off Campus Housing

Board and/or rooming facilities are available in the campus communities. The College maintains a housing registry and students are given assistance in finding suitable accommodations.

Incoming Students

Students have access to a number of support services including peer tutoring, special needs accommodations, and academic and career counselling. Our Student Success Centre provides immediate assistance to students who are in need of academic help. As part of the Northern College commitment to meet the unique needs of our students, advisors are available to provide assistance. Our advisors can help you with personal, financial, academic or social matters. In addition, advisors can help you with program and course selection.

Career Planning

Career advisers are available to provide counselling, aptitude testing, job search, and placement services, as well as other career planning services.

Sports

Athletic Facilities and the Wellness Centre are located at the Timmins Campus. Lower Level Area includes: saunas, lockers, weight room, cardio machines, squash court and private workout room. There is a full size gym, ideal for basketball, volleyball, indoor soccer, floor hockey and badminton. The Mezzanine Area includes mats, punching bag, stretching area and beep testing area.

Activities

Carnivals, pubs, dances, concerts, sports, contests, information fairs, and entertainment are just a few activities that make student life at Northern College well worth discovering.

Special Services

Centre for Students with Disabilities offers individualized support services for students with various disabilities. Campus is fully accessible for handicapped individuals.

Affiliated Institutions

Northern College has a number of transfer and articulation agreements with other colleges and universities. More information can be obtained on the Web site.

International Involvement

Applications are accepted from around the world. Northern has hosted students from Africa, Japan, Malaysia, and Hong Kong. The College also enters into partnerships with other countries to provide training resources and to share expertise.
