Founded in 1966, Grande Prairie Regional College (GPRC) serves the Alberta and British Columbia peace regions. The College offers the first one and/or two years of numerous university degrees with a variety of career and vocational certificates and diplomas. International students may study English before they begin a career or university program. The College offers university transfer, diploma and certificate programs; apprenticeship and pre-employment trades training; and adult high school equivalency completion. Credit programs are offered in the areas of Liberal Arts, Science, Education, Physical Education, Nursing, Human Services, Fine Arts, Business, Technology, Academic Upgrading, Trades and Technical training, Agriculture and Environmental Sciences. The College also offers baccalaureate degrees and master degrees in collaboration with universities.

Housing services are available to students. You can apply to live in Residence any time of the year. Applications for the next Fall/Winter semester that are received before January 31st are randomly drawn and the rooms are assigned by the end of February. Off Campus Housing

On-campus housing is limited, so a comprehensive 'off-campus' housing registry is maintained for the benefit of students. International students may prefer to participate in the Homestay program managed by the International Education Centre.

Incoming Students

Sports

Activities and facilities available at GPRC are fitness services, weight room, climbing wall, recreational activities, intramural, and ACAC sports. GPRC athletes are competitive at provincial and national levels in badminton, basketball, curling, swimming, volleyball, and cross-country running. A quality gymnasium and weight training facility on campus is available to students and the community. A privately operated climbing wall provides another popular recreational option in a community with good access to facilities for skating, swimming, and skiing. Activities

International students in the English Language program can participate in organized activities suited to the season. Some activities are skiing, softball, curling, skating, golfing, and horseback riding.

Clubs

Clubs available include Student Government, Shorinryu Karate Club, Axis Dance Club, Circle of Aboriginal Students, Intervarsity Christian Fellowship, GPRC Table Tennis, People's Kung-Fu Club, New Democratic Youth Club, etc. An active Student Association provides opportunities for a wide variety of student clubs and recreational activities. https://www.gprc.ab.ca/athletics/community/clubs/index.html

Information Technology

Computer facilities at GPRC are expanding steadily and computer labs with Internet access are available for student use daily from early morning to late evening. Students may request e-mail service for which there is a nominal fee. Many programs of instruction are now delivered online.

Cultural

There is a student newspaper at Grande Prairie Regional College. GPRC houses a music conservatory that delivers instruction to students of all ages from the community at large. The fine arts wing of the College includes performance and practice studios for music and drama. An active visual arts program includes everything from drawing to digital design. The 500-seat theatre in GPRC is among the cultural features of the region.

Special Services

Classrooms and facilities are wheelchair accessible and an on-campus daycare is also available to students. There is a special needs advisor for students with disabilities and an Aboriginal Student Advisor. A wide variety of services are available for students with special needs. Counselling and health services at Grande Prairie Regional College provide assistance or referral as required. The campus is fully wheelchair accessible.

Affiliated Institutions

Athabasca University and University of Alberta are affiliated with GPRC in collaborative degree programs. Other Alberta institutions such as the University of Calgary and the University of Lethbridge welcome block transfer of graduating GPRC diploma students to specific degree programs.

Campus tours for international students are provided before the students begin studying.

Other

Health services, bookstore, library, career resources centre, student success seminars, corner store, parking, and access to public transit are all accessible at GPRC. The English Language Centre serves international students in a variety of programs year-round.
