Northern Lakes College will be recognized as a first-choice community college with the most accessible programs and services in Alberta. ​Northern Lakes College is committed to innovative training and a diverse range of partnerships that include small businesses, corporations, band and settlement offices, community groups, municipalities, and government agencies across more than one-quarter of the Province of Alberta. Our faculty and staff take pride in delivering relevant, high quality learning opportunities. Distance learning technology remains a key delivery tool, helping us to reach students throughout the region and beyond. Small class sizes, professional instructors and affordable tuition continue to be important ingredients to our success.

2010 marked the 40th Anniversary of Northern Lakes College. This milestone was significant in terms of our long-term commitment to the success of our students and our continuing role in the social and economic viability of more than 30 communities throughout northern Alberta. Our college has grown and so have the needs of our students and our region.

Areas of Expertise

​​​​​​​​​​Northern Lakes College offers programs and courses in a variety of different areas of interest, including trades, health care sectors, education, business and university studies.

On Campus Housing

Northern Lakes College student residences are available in Grouard and Slave Lake. Student residence offers students a place to live plus access to a variety of recreation facilities and events. ​​The Grouard Campus provides 11 three and four bedroom single family, unfurnished houses and 11 furnished townhouses.​​​ The Slave Lake campus provides four bedroom units with single beds and two bathrooms; shared kitchen and living room. There are also barrier-free two bedroom units available for those requiring accommodations for physical disabilities (shared bathroom, kitchen and living room). Career Planning

Career Counselling is an individualized process that uses a variety of assessment tools to assist the student in identifying their interests, abilities, values, and unique qualities to make informed decisions about their educational and employment goals. Clubs

Every student of the Northern Lakes College is a member of the Students' Association. The student fees collected with tuition fees go towards the Students' Association to finance their business. Cultural

Northern Lakes College is pleased to present a variety of workshops in Aboriginal Arts and Design. Learn the techniques as well as the fascinating history behind each of these wonderful unique art forms - beading, fish scale art, doll making, creating traditional outfits, quill art work, moose hair tufting, and many more! Sessions are interspersed with facts and knowledge on the Aboriginal history. If you are interested in learning something new or would like to set up your own cottage craft business, these workshops may be of interest to you.

Special Services

Established in 1976, the original purpose of the Northern Lakes College Native Cultural Arts Museum was to promote a better understanding of Aboriginal American arts and crafts, with the objective of developing the creative achievements of artists and crafts persons in northwestern Alberta. This initiative has grown to become an integral part of the Northern Lakes College culture strategy.

Other

Several of the communities, which have a Northern Lakes College campus, also have private daycares and day home child care services. These services are independent of the College and should be personally checked out to ensure it is appropriate for your child.
