Description | Why do people behave the way they do? What are the best ways to change behaviour? What do we mean by personality? How do we learn? To what degree do our genetic makeup and environment influence our development? Understanding the mechanisms that underlie the behaviour of people and animals is the basic goal of psychology.
When you study Psychology at Carleton University, you’ll be exploring all the major areas of the field, including social psychology, personality, cognition, development, and biological foundations of behaviour. Applied work experience is available to qualified students in their third year. Health Psychology involves the study of the psychological, social and behavioural influences on health and illness, covering such topics as stress and coping, forgiveness, life-changing experiences, health decision-making and our relationship with nature.
