DescriptionThe BA German degree is offered by experts in German literature, culture, gender studies, history, translation, music and contemporary writing and we pride ourselves on the range and flexibility of the degree schemes we offer.

In the first year all students follow a language module which builds on your knowledge of spoken and written German and a module on German culture designed to introduce you to the rich diversity of film, literature and history of Germany. There are optional modules on German for Professional Purposes, European Cinema and Fiction. You can also study German as a beginner. In the second and final year you continue to develop your language skills and choose from optional modules such as: Twentieth Century Berlin: Myth and Reality; Vienna Underground; German Song Cultures; The Meanings of Fairy Tales; Modernism and Desire: Germany 1890-1933; Shifting Identities in Modern Germany and a Dissertation on a subject of your choice.
