Description | The English Language Studies Program is designed to improve your Academic English skills while promoting cultural exchange, academic success, and personal growth. Our experienced instructors are here to focus on improving your speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills, while encouraging critical thinking and academic integrity. Prior to starting classes you will need to complete a short level test to best determine your English language level. You will then be placed in the level which is most appropriate to your level. Each level of the ELS program is 12 weeks in length and there are 5 levels of study. For students who possess some English language proficiency, Level 10 will focus on improving your applied grammar, listening, speaking, pronunciation, vocabulary development, and writing structure. You will then progress through each level until you reach Level 50 where you will acquire a wide range of skills that will allow prepare you to be fully able and functional as a Canadian university student. Upon completion, you will have developed the skills necessary for university-level study, research, writing, and seminar skills.
When applying to the English Language Studies Program, many students choose to also apply to one of UNBC's degree programs and then receive conditional acceptance. Conditional acceptance is a type of admission offered by UNBC to students who have met the academic conditions for acceptance to an undergraduate program, but do not possess the English proficiency requirement. This means that once you have completed English Language Studies you can immediately begin studying at UNBC because you will have met the English language requirements for admission to UNBC's degree programs. | | |
