DescriptionThe Department of Jewish Studies, established in 1968, offers an interdisciplinary approach to the study of Judaica. We offer concentrations in Jewish Thought, History, Bible and Literature, and also, courses that enable students not taking a Concentration in Jewish Studies to broaden their knowledge of Jewish history and culture; elementary, intermediate and advanced courses in Jewish languages - Hebrew, Yiddish, and Aramaic. In the case of the first two, this includes attention to both spoken idiom and written texts; specialized courses in the various disciplines that comprise Jewish Studies for students who have specific academic interests; a Minor Concentration for students who wish to add competence in Jewish Studies to their major field of study; a comprehensive Major Concentration, and an Honours program culminating in advanced seminars and tutorials for students contemplating careers in the various fields of Judaica.
