DescriptionGeology is the study of planet Earth, its origin and evolution, its fundamental structure, and the properties of minerals, rocks, and fluids of which it is composed. The entire field combines arts and sciences, and has many different subdisciplines to explore. Electives are grouped into areas of interest that focus on a particular aspect of geological science: Environmental Geology (includes Hydrogeology and Groundwater); Sedimentary Geology and Geobiology (includes Petroleum Geology); Crustal and Mantle Processes; and Mineral Deposit Geology. UBC offers a Major program in Geology, and an Honours program in Geological Sciences. The Honours program is recommended if you are considering a professional career and accreditation.
