Prerequisites NotesAdmission to the doctoral degree program requires completion of a master’s degree from a recognized university. The completed degree can be with or without thesis. Applicants who have completed a project-based master’s degree are required to have completed a research paper in which design principles and analytic techniques are demonstrated.

DescriptionThis program integrates the psychology of learning and instruction with the psychology of human biological, cognitive, emotional, and social development. The developmental content of this focus area encompasses a life-span of methodological perspectives, but focuses primarily on the first two decades of life. The learning portion of this focus area is applicable across the lifespan.

The Ph.D. program prepares students to contribute to theory, research, and practice in the Learning and Development field of Educational Psychology. Graduates of the program pursue academic, research, government, and professional careers. The flexibility of the program and breadth of faculty expertise provide students with opportunities to pursue individualized scholarly and professional goals in close collaboration with faculty supervisors. Students are encouraged to complete a research apprenticeship and apprenticeship in teaching in higher education.
