Description | Remote Sensing is the study of Earth Observation systems and applications. Remote Sensing is a rapidly expanding discipline with multiple applications in: forestry, geology, defence/intelligence, disaster management, conservation, oceanography, meteorology, urban analysis, and agriculture. With the increasing availability and use of digital airborne remote sensing systems such as the Compact Airborne Spectrographic Imager (hyperspectral), Digital Sensor System (photography), and the Airborne Laser Terrain Mapper (LiDAR) there is a growing demand for personnel skilled in operating these systems.
Our graduates are tracking environmental changes for use in weather prediction. They’re helping natural resource companies find new sources of opportunities such as potential new diamond mines. Some NSCC-COGS alumni are currently working for Canada Centre for Remote Sensing, Canadian Hydrographic Service, and the Department of Mines and Energy. Other graduates have gone on to work in the public and private sector in Canada, the United States and overseas with companies such as Terrapoint, Terra Remote Sensing, Hyperspectral Imaging Limited, and Leading Edge Geomatics. | | |
