Description | The English for Academic Purposes program (EAP) is the English language studies option of the General Arts and Science program. Only domestic students (i.e. citizens, permanent residents, refugee claimants) may apply. The program is designed for non-native English speakers who want to improve their English language skills in order to promote success in further studies at college or university.
EAP is an intensive full-time program of 20 hours per week of classroom instruction. Each level of the program builds skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing until by Level 8, students are able to work with college materials. Students develop effective textbook reading strategies, academic essay/report writing skills, and communication and presentation skills.
Upon successful completion of Level 8, students will receive a Certificate of English Language Proficiency, which is recognized by Durham College and will satisfy the language requirement for entrance into most of Durham College's diploma programs.
