DescriptionThe Recreational Pilot Permit (RPP) is designed for individuals who wish only to fly recreationally. The number of hours required to obtain a RPP are considerably less than those required to obtain a Private Pilot Licence. The experience obtained with the RPP can be counted towards obtaining a private pilot licence at a later date if so desired. Cross country flying is permitted with the RPP and the holder will be authorized to fly single-engine, piston-powered, non-high performance aeroplanes designed for a maximum of up to four seats. The RPP does have some restrictions: the holder of a permit can carry only one passenger and the permit cannot be endorsed with higher ratings such as night or multi-engine.

Applicants must complete a course of not less than 25 hours flight training, which shall include not less than 15 hours of dual instruction flight time (including not less than two hours cross country flight time with a cross country flight of two 30-minute legs, and five hours' solo flight time).
