Prerequisites NotesApplication, resume, and transcript of Grade 12 marks consisting of Academic English (10,11,12), Biology (11), Chemistry (11), and/or Integrated Science (10); or a High School Diploma equivalency (GED) with related science background must be received prior to the interview. Individuals interested in applying under the Mature Student policy must be a minimum of 21 years of age, be out of school for a minimum of 1 year and must provide high school transcripts demonstrating that a minimum of Grade 10 was completed. An interview and aptitude test must be completed before any acceptance into the program can be considered. It is a requirement for all students enrolled in this program to provide a clean Criminal Record Check and have a valid drivers license.

DescriptionStudents trained in the Dental Assisting Diploma will be prepared to assist the dental team in all aspects of care in a dental office. They will learn to assist the dentist in all dental procedures performed in a general dental practice and will learn to administer individualized patient education and treatment as outlined under the scope of practice for dental assistants practicing in Nova Scotia. The program consists of 46 weeks of classroom and clinical instruction, as well as office rotations and a three week work term placement. Upon successful completion of both the classroom, clinical and work term components of the program, the students must write and successfully pass the National Dental Assisting Board Examination in order to receive their diploma and be considered eligible for registration, licensure and practice. The cost for this examination will be included in the tuition costs for the program.
