DescriptionAircraft avionics technicians are responsible for the servicing, repair and modification of aircraft electronic systems and components. The job includes removing and installing components, bench testing, and troubleshooting complex electronic aircraft systems. Today's aircraft can be quite sophisticated with "fly by wire," auto flight, global positioning, satellite navigation, in-flight entertainment, and automatic communication and receiving systems.

This 48-week program is designed to follow a national/international set of standards and is approved by Transport Canada. It provides an in-depth knowledge of modern aircraft electronics, incorporating the electronics theory obtained in the Electronic Core program. You will learn interpretation of and compliance with CARs (Canadian Aviation Regulations) regulations and airworthiness standards. Graduates may be credited with 18 months experience towards the 48 months industry experience required by Transport Canada to obtain an AME 'E' license. Students will attend lectures approximately 50% of the time, while gaining hands-on experience 50% of the time. The program is conducted at the BCIT Aerospace and Technology Campus at Vancouver International Airport and at the BCIT Kelowna Campus. Both have well equipped avionics shops.
