DescriptionSociology is the fascinating study of human societies including social structures and rules, common beliefs and behaviours, social changes over time, the differences that exist between social groups, and society as a whole. Sociology is one of the most popular programs in the Faculty of Arts at Acadia. We offer a variety of courses that cover a wide range of social issues including anthropology, criminology and deviance, cultural studies, education, issues in families, gender and feminism, health and health care, political economy, race and ethnic relations, research and methodology, social movements, social theory, societal development, and work. The sociology program involves careful inquiry into how societies work. It focuses on social problems and their solutions, and makes sense of the changing world using a variety of cross-cultural, historical and critical approaches.
