Several different model systems are used to approach different questions including primary and cell culture, mice and Drosophila.

Students undertake independent research programs in conjunction with formal course work in relevant topics and department seminars. Emphasis is placed on the students training not only in lab-work on their specific research project of interest but also to be able to critically analyze scientific information and become an effective communicator.
