DescriptionDiscoveries in biochemistry have been a primary catalyst for many of the advances in modern medicine, pharmacology, toxicology, and in the booming field of biotechnology. Carleton University offers a Collaborative Specialization in Biochemistry to current or incoming Master’s and PhD students who are registered in one of the two participating programs (Biology, Chemistry). Students will gain knowledge and expertise on many of the key concepts, methodologies, current advances and theoretical approaches used in all major areas in Biochemistry including proteomics, genomics, genetics, molecular biology, cell biology and physiology. Many Biochemistry graduate programs are linked to medical schools and have a more human focus. Our Specialization is unique in that it provides a more “holistic” approach to biochemistry, covering areas that Biochemistry graduate programs at other Canadian universities might lack (e.g. toxicology, food science, etc.). It also covers cross-species comparisons outside of human biochemistry not found in other, more focused Biochemistry programs.
