Requirements for Canadian Students

Programs at Alexander College have open enrolment and applications are accepted until programs are full and for up to two weeks after the semester begins. Some courses can fill quickly, and we encourage new students to submit applications as soon as possible in order to have the greatest course selection.

Requirements for International Students

Programs at Alexander College have open enrolment and applications are accepted until programs are full and for up to two weeks after the semester begins. Some courses can fill quickly, and we encourage new students to submit applications as soon as possible in order to have the greatest course selection.

Students who have not completed their secondary program in a school in North America are designated as international students. English is the language of instruction and successful study depends heavily upon fluency in the English language. The English proficiency requirement can be satisfied in a number of ways, the most common of which include:

For direct admission to University-level programs:

  • IELTS (Academic) - 6.0 (Writing 6.0)
  • TOEFL IBT - 80 (Reading: 19, Writing: 19, Listening: 18, Speaking: 18)
  • LPI (Language Proficiency Index) Level 4 with essay 24

Procedure for Canadian Students

Domestic Applicants (citizens and permanent residents of Canada)

1. Submit application documents in person or by mail, including:

  • Application form
  • Application fee of $200.00
  • High school or post-secondary transcripts
  • Graduation certificate, if applicable
  • Documentation of English language proficiency
  • Photocopy of valid passport or status card (i.e. permanent residence, citizenship)
  • Photocopy of valid medical insurance

2. Wait for application to be processed, from 1-3 business days. Submit any outstanding documents, as requested. Accepted applicants will receive a congratulatory Welcome Letter and an information package.

3. Make an appointment to meet with an Academic Advisor, if needed, to create a study plan.

4. Log in to your Alexander College Online account, update your profile information, and register for classes.

5. Pay tuition fees, check class schedule, have your photo taken for a student ID card.

Procedure for International Students

International Applicants

1. Submit application documents in person or by mail, including:

  • Application form
  • Application fee of $200.00
  • High school or post-secondary transcripts, accompanied by a licensed English translation if the original language of the document is not English
  • Graduation certificate, if applicable, accompanied by a licensed English translation if the original language of the document is not English
  • Documentation of English language proficiency
  • Photocopy of valid passport

2. Wait for application to be processed, from 1-3 business days. Submit any outstanding documents, as requested. Accepted applicants will receive a congratulatory Welcome Letter and an information package and/or a Conditional Letter of Acceptance.

3. Pay the tuition fee deposit indicated and receive an Official Letter of Acceptance. Submit this letter with your application for a study permit.

After arrival in Canada

4. Submit supplemental documents:

  • Copy of valid study permit
  • Copy of valid medical insurance

2. Make an appointment to meet with an Academic Advisor, if needed, to create a study plan.

3. Log in to your Alexander College Online account, update your profile information, and register for classes.

4. Check class schedule, have your photo taken for a student ID card.

The academic year is divided into four terms: Fall (Sept-Dec), Winter (Jan-Apr), Spring (May-July) and Summer intensive* (July-Aug).
*While there are a small number of condensed classes offered during the summer months, the Summer Intensive (July - August) is not considered a regular term for the purposes of study permit or work permit eligibility provided that the student is enrolled, full-time, in both the term prior to the break and the term following the break.
