Description:

You'll take either a beginners or a post-A Level Russian course. You'll receive a thorough grounding in all aspects of the spoken and written language, and take modules in cultural and social history.

You'll spend your third year in Russia. As the minor subject on this degree, Japanese is taught non-intensively and covers basic speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. Have a look at the School of East Asian Studies for courses that focus more on Japanese and include time in Japan.

If you are not studying a modern foreign language, the department will consider other evidence of aptitude for language learning (such as a languages GCSE or, for non-native speakers of English, an English language qualification).
