Description:

This program is designed for the student who wants to explore a variety of performance disciplines. The intensive performance-based training is blended with a challenging range of academic-based studies. A wide range of production and performance opportunities enhances the scope of this program. Students select a single concentration of study (Acting, Music Theatre, or Dance Theatre) and follow that path for their first three consecutive semesters. Building upon this solid foundation, future semesters offer advanced courses within the original concentration plus a variety of course options that best suits the student's individual interests. Advanced courses focus on career preparation, industry networking, audition techniques and cultivating an entrepreneur spirit within the performing artist. The rich breadth of this program successfully prepares students to compete within the ever-changing demands of the entertainment industry.

  • International English Language Testing System (academic or immigration) [min. 6.5] or Test of English as a Foreign Language (Internet Based) [min. 79]
Application Notes : If English is not your primary language, you will be required to take either, the Cambridge English Language Assessment (FCE, CAE, or CPE), the Elash 2 test, the IELTS test, or the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). All test results must be received directly from the testing service you choose.

For admissions to Bachelor of Fine Arts programs, the minimum test score is:
Cambridge (CEFR) - C1,
ELASH 2 - 150,
IELTS - 6.5, or
TOEFL iBT - 79.
The English language proficiency exam requirement is waived in situations where English was the primary language of instruction for a minimum of three years in the high school or university that will be sending official academic records to AMDA. A letter from the school must confirm that the language of instruction is English.

FOR YOUR APPLICATION TO BE COMPLETE, YOU MUST: 1) Complete the Audition Requirement - AMDA offers numerous audition opportunities in locations throughout the United States and the world. AMDA also provides appointments at both the New York City and Los Angeles campuses. You must be a junior or senior in high school or a high school graduate to request an audition. 2) Complete the upper portion of the forms and submit at least one recommendation (more are welcome as well). Acceptable references include teachers, directors, guidance counselors or anyone familiar with your work and potential as an actor, singer or dancer. Make sure your reference(s) mail the form to the AMDA campus where you plan to begin studying. 3) Complete the Signature Page Form and mail it to the AMDA campus where you plan to begin studying; and send an official transcript or transcripts from your high school and (if applicable) college. Official transcripts from every educational institution that you listed in your application must be forwarded to AMDA. You can: request your transcripts free of charge, or contact your guidance counselor or transcript office and have them send your transcript(s) to AMDA using the transcript request form.


DANCE THEATRE - Undergraduate degree for training in classical ballet, modern dance and the Broadway repertoire


Applicants will be asked to present a primary solo dance piece (60-90 seconds in length). The primary solo piece should be in one of the following styles: Ballet, Modern, Jazz, and/or Contemporary.


Applicants who wish to show an intermediate or advanced level of proficiency in Hip-hop, Tap, Ballroom or cultural dance styles may prepare a secondary solo.


Applicants may also be asked to demonstrate ballet vocabulary or perform a piece of choreography as part of the audition. To be fully prepared, please bring all appropriate dance shoes and attire. Applicants must provide music on an MP3 player (phones may be used, but must be placed in "do not disturb" or "airplane" mode). Speakers will be provided by AMDA.


Note: AMDA's Dance Theatre BFA program is an interdisciplinary program. AMDA's Dance Theatre BFA program is an interdisciplinary program. Dance Theatre applicants are encouraged to prepare a song or monologue in addition to their dance pieces. This will also allow dance theatre applicants to be considered for admission to other AMDA programs. We ask all Dance Theatre applicants to prepare one of the following:


  1. 1) one 60-90 second monologue (contemporary or classical). Monologues should be sourced from published plays.


  2. OR


  3. 2) 32 bars of a song from the musical theatre or classical repertoire. Please bring sheet music in your key to your audition. AMDA will provide a professional accompanist for you.rmitted.
