Description:

This collaborative graduate program prepares students for careers in biomedical engineering and provides them with the opportunity to advance their own research, tap into Toronto Metropolitan University’s leading faculty-based research and work on industry-related projects.

Throughout the program, students are supported by a network of experienced faculty supervisors and have opportunities for training at research hospitals such as St. Michael’s Hospital and the University Health Network. This program supports student development in biomedical engineering R&D — which is ranked as the number-one job in the health-care industry — to meet the demand for better medical devices, more sophisticated medical equipment and improved biomedical procedures.

Prerequisites:

Grade for Entrance Previous Year (%)*77
These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school.
Completion of a master’s degree in engineering, or related discipline in the biomedical sciences, from a recognized institution. Minimum grade point average (GPA) or equivalent of 3.33/4.33 (B+)
    Test Scores:
    • International English Language Testing System (academic or immigration) [min. 7] or Test of English as a Foreign Language (Internet Based) [min. 93] or Canadian Academic English Language Assessment [min. 70]
Application Notes : If you have not completed two or more years, full-time, at a Canadian university or a university at which English was the primary language of instruction, or have not completed a graduate degree at a university where English was the primary language of instruction, you will be required to provide certification of English language proficiency through one of the accepted examinations listed below. Scores are valid for two years from the test date.

It is important to understand that meeting the minimum English proficiency requirements does not guarantee admission. Programs may set additional requirements to these minimum standards.

    • Statement of Research Interests
Candidates applying to the PhD program in Biomedical Engineering need to have a demonstrated capacity to undertake advanced research though the completion of a Master’s degree in biomedical engineering, or a related field in either engineering or biomedical sciences (e.g. biology, biochemistry, physiology, immunology, genetics, etc.), from a recognized institution.

A minimum Master's cumulative grade point average (CGPA) or equivalent of 3.33/4.33 (B+) is required for admission consideration.
