Description:

This Masters course in Emergency Planning Resilience and Response will provide you with an opportunity for you to develop master’s level education in the concepts theories and academic skills for emergency planning, resilience, business continuity and disaster management and recovery .The course caters for professionals who may already be working in this field or those wishing to embark on a career in emergency planning. The course aims to offer a flexible approach to the subjects studied and those already working in this area will be able to develop further their knowledge skills and experience. The course will ensure you develop a sound working knowledge of the principles and practice of emergency planning and the underpinning policy. You will develop valuable skills in communication and strategic leadership. You will also develop a wide range of inter-personal skills for effective use in multi-agency teams. There will be opportunities to take part in exercises and training in simulated emergency settings with a wide range of professional and other Key Stakeholders and organisations involved in emergency planning.



You will study six 20 credit modules and conduct a 60 credit Master’s level piece of independent research. You may also use the accreditation of prior experience and learning process to credit appropriate experience or past level 7 credits for learning, towards the course. You will be able to study a range of subjects for the 60 credits at PG Certificate (Cert) level and 60 credits at PG Diploma (Dip) level. The 60 credit independent study module can be selected from three options, either an evidence based practice module containing two major assessments, usually of relevance to your current workplace (under the supervision of an experienced member of staff), a Consultancy Project which will be negotiated by an employer or third party organisation where you may agree delivery parameters of a consultancy project , carry out the required work and academically evaluate the process and outcomes or the research dissertation. This module consists of an independent study designed, planned & carried out by yourself (under the supervision of an experienced member of staff), written up into dissertation of a minimum of 15,000 words.
