Description:Medical Laboratory Assistant/Technicians are important members of the health care team. Interacting directly with patients, they position Holter monitors, perform ECG’s and collect blood samples for laboratory analysis.

Inside the laboratory they assist other professionals by sorting and preparing samples for testing, operating laboratory equipment, performing basic laboratory testing under supervision, and managing data in computers.

This one-year program includes two semesters of learning in our classrooms and laboratories followed by 150 hours of field placement at a participating clinical site.

Admission Requirements


These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school.

  •  Grade12 English 
  •  Grade12 Mathematics 
  •  Grade11 Biology  or  Grade11 Chemistry 

Grade 11 or 12 Biology or Chemistry at the C or U level CPR (Basic Rescuer Level B) and Standard First Aid must be obtained prior to the first semester and CPR must be in date (annual recertification) for placement in May. Annual WHMIS training. Current enhanced security clearance (CPIC) and Vulnerable Sector Check as required by placement site at the student’s expense, prior to the start of INTN 111 (field placement).

  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (Computer Based) [min. 213] or Test of English as a Foreign Language (Internet Based) [min. 79] or Test of English as a Foreign Language (Paper Based) [min. 550] or International English Language Testing System (academic or immigration) [min. 6.5] or Canadian Academic English Language Assessment [min. 60]
