| Students in the PhD in Music program are engaged in a program of study that leads to an original contribution to their field of study: composition; music education; musicology; or music theory. Students are exposed to a wide range of approaches and methodologies to research and creative activity, and work in a thriving intellectual and creative environment. The stages of the program ensure that students attain a broad knowledge base in their particular area of study that prepares them to write an original dissertation. |

Admission to our doctoral programs normally requires a Master’s degree in the area of study for which a doctoral application is made. |

PhD in Music (Music Education)
▪ A Master's degree in Music Education (or equivalent)
▪ Two essays (3,000-4,000 words) that demonstrate the ability to articulate and carry out research in music education
▪ A statement of interest video (no more than 10 minutes) addressing your background, research interests and goals for the the program, as well as your potential contribution to our community
▪ A recent music teaching video in a setting of your choosing (15-20 minutes)
▪ A current resume or curriculum vitae
▪ Three confidential letters of recommendation
▪ Selected candidates will be invited for an interview |
