| From day one, students in the Medical Laboratory Science program are immersed in a collaborative, hands-on environment simulating a clinical lab setting. Michener’s affiliation with UHN has helped to further its goal of providing students with the most cutting-edge medical equipment and access to clinical expertise. Michener’s laboratories are equipped with up-to-date equipment, including a variety of automated lab analyzers, high quality microscopes, double and five-headed microscopes and digital technology to augment student learning. The labs are equipped with multiple analyzers allowing students the opportunity to practice in both small groups and independently.
Graduates are eligible to write the national certification examinations conducted by the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Sciences (CSMLS) . Certification qualifies the graduate to work across Canada or for registration with the provincial colleges, such as the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO) , which is a requirement to practice in Ontario. The Medical Laboratory Science program is accredited by Accreditation Canada . Accreditation is a quality improvement process that ensures educational programs meet national standards and that students acquire the knowledge, skills and competencies for safe and effective care at entry to practice.

If you have university experience, a minimum 2.70 university CGPA is required (regardless of length of time university was attended). Applicants to the Medical Laboratory Science program must possess the following qualifications: an Ontario Secondary School Diploma; four grade 12 University (U) level courses (Grade 12 English (U), Grade 12 Mathematics (U), Grade 12 Chemistry (U), and Grade 12 Biology (U) OR Physics (U) (Biology is strongly recommended)); two University (U) or University/Mixed (U/M) level courses; and an overall average of 75% in all the six courses used to meet the admission requirements (with no grade lower than 70% in the six courses). | Application Notes : | Since all lectures, seminars, and clinical laboratory sessions are conducted in English, an adequate knowledge of written and spoken English is essential for student success.This requirement of proficiency in English may be satisfied by passing ONE of the following English language assessments: the Michener English Language Assessment (MELA) measures English Language proficiency in four skill areas: Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing - a minimum score of 8 on all components is required to be considered for admission to Michener programs; International English Language Testing System (IELTS) - an overall score of 6.5 with all components (bands) of the test being at a 6 or above (?academic? test format is required); or Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and Test of Written English (TWE) - the scores required for TOEFL are a minimum TOEFL score of 100 (iBT) with a minimum of 22 on the Writing Section or 250 (computer) or 600 (written) and TWE of 5.0. Unless applicants have written a TWE along with the paper-based TOEFL test, they will be required to write that portion of the assessment. Only tests taken in the last two years are considered valid. |
