Our Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Counselor Education and Supervision program is for those who hold master’s degrees in counseling or related fields with a desire to advanced expertise and excellence in teaching, research, leadership and advocacy, counseling, and supervision.

The program reflects our social justice mission and integrates themes of freedom, liberation, diversity, and multiculturalism throughout the curriculum. We emphasize therapeutic change rather than many theories, training students in sophisticated counseling techniques and psychotherapy integration. You will work with individuals to help them gain the freedom in making choices to conquer life’s challenges.

    Applicants are required to have: a master’s degree in counseling or a related field from a regionally accredited U.S. institution or a comparable degree from an international institution; successful completion of master’s level counseling coursework, and clinical training, practicum and/or internship as part of a master’s program; and an academic record that demonstrates ability to fulfill the academic demands of our program. Successful applicants typically have a grade point average of 3.25 or higher on a 4.0 scale for graduate-level coursework. Applicants who did not graduate from CACREP-accredited or equivalent programs may be required to complete the equivalency requirements in addition to the doctoral curriculum. Approved applicants will be invited to complete an interview as part of the application process.
