Description:

This programme is for students who have previously studied psychology and want to further their knowledge and understanding of an applied area of psychology. Students will study general psychology at an advanced level and specialise in their choice of, educational and child psychology, counselling and clinical psychology or forensic psychology. You will be given the opportunity to develop skills beneficial to working in an applied psychology practice or research setting, through the completion of work experience. You will be able to tailor your learning to a particular field of psychology and study advanced psychological practices in your chosen specialism.

This course is run either as a one year full-time or two year part-time programme (HLST093), or as an 18 month full-time programme (HLST141) which includes an internship module in which students are offered the opportunity to integrate theory and practice and carry out a real project in collaboration with a host organisation. If the student is not successful in securing and meeting the requirements of an internship she or he will revert to the 12 month programme.

Application Notes : Applicants whose first language is not English should have an IELTS 6.5 overall, with no component lower than 5.5. Pre-sessional English is available if required.
Additional Admission Requirements:
    Applicants should hold the equivalent of a 2:2 undergraduate degree in Psychology. Applicants holding an equivalent professional qualifications and experience will be considered, but must have a degree in either psychology or a relevant discipline, with at least 120 credits of psychology. For the 18 month route (course HLST141), students must meet the internship requirements, normally assessed by an interview during the first term of the course.
