Description:

The course has central (some of which are unique) pathways from year 1 through to year 3 including: Health and Criminology (e.g. mental health and disabilities); Gendered Violence (e.g. domestic and sexual violence in same-sex and heterosexual relationships); Policing and Surveillance; Youth Crime and Youth Justice; Criminal Justice and Punishment; The Applied route offers a placement, visits to courts and prisons, talks from practitioners and links into practice through raising volunteering opportunities; Training in Computer Assisted Data Analysis Software (via social research methods).

Students choosing Criminology have to study the latter pathway of social research methods relevant to offenders, victims, and criminal justice settings. This develops analytical and practical skills in both quantitative and qualitative research, which some employers seek from graduates and which are often needed for further academic study. As you progress through the course, you can also specialise in the other pathways where relevant.
