Description:

This field of study will assist the student to apply an advanced level of knowledge and skills in clinical health assessment; effectively identify the needs of the individual/family and formulate comprehensive health assessments and plans of care within their area of specialty practice that are constructed using theoretical principles and evidence based research findings.

Additionally, the student will analyse contemporary nursing practice from a variety of perspectives, developing an understanding of the professional issues and the impact of current political, economic and socio-cultural influences on the profession and nursing practice.

Clinical teaching and learning skills are also integral components of professional nursing practice. As such students will develop skills and knowledge that will prepare them for educational leadership roles within their own specified area of practice; enable the nurse to educate, support and develop their colleagues; promote health education to their clients and support beginning practitioners entering the profession. The program also provides opportunities for students to critically analyse contemporary models and frameworks for nursing leadership and change management; and examine leadership concepts & issues.

    Applicants will need to have a Bachelor of Nursing degree or equivalent and be a registered nurse. International students, studying on a student visa, may not undertake the program on campus at UQ on a full time basis; they may only study from their home countries and will not be eligible for an Australian student visa.
