Description:

The Master of Midwifery program is specifically designed for graduates of any Bachelor of Midwifery degree or equivalent to enable them to extend their midwifery knowledge and skills in a specialty field. There are two fields of study available in the program; Complex Midwifery Care and Advanced Practice Midwifery.

The student will analyse contemporary midwifery practice from a variety of perspectives, developing an understanding of the professional issues and the impact of current political, economic and socio-cultural influences on the profession and midwifery practice. Clinical teaching and learning skills are also integral components of professional midwifery practice.

The student will develop skills and knowledge that will prepare them for educational leadership roles within their own specified area of practice; enable the midwife to educate, support and develop their colleagues; promote health education to their clients and support beginning practitioners entering the midwifery profession. The program also provides opportunities for students to critically analyse contemporary models and frameworks for leadership and change management; and examine leadership concepts & issues.

    A Bachelor of Midwifery or equivalent and be registered to practise as a midwife in Australia. Applicants are strongly encouraged to have recent and current practice as a Registered Midwife as some assessment items in the courses are designed to expand clinical practice skills.
