Description:

Our distinguished nationally accredited Forest Technology diploma program bridges the environment with people to ensure the balanced use of forested landscapes. We train forestry professionals to use an ecologically-responsible approach in maintaining the integrity of the whole forest in the short and long-term.

This field is anticipating increased job opportunities to augment a rapidly retiring workforce. The public needs to be reassured that our forests are being managed by skilled, responsible forest practitioners.

Prerequisites:

These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school.
  •  Grade12 English 
  •  Grade11 Biology 
  •  Grade11 Principles of Mathematics  or  Grade11 Foundations for College Mathematics (MAP4C) 
An applicant must meet the following School of Environment and Geomatics program requirements: completion of senior secondary school graduation (or equivalent) with Biology 11 C+, Principles of Math 11 or Foundations 11 with a C+ or better, and English 12 C+ (or their equivalents). Test Scores:
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (Computer Based) [min. 213] or International English Language Testing System (academic or immigration) [min. 6.0] or Test of English as a Foreign Language (Internet Based) [min. 79-80]
Application Notes : If your first language is not English, you must meet the following English Language Proficiency requirements for entry in to Selkirk College University Transfer, Diploma or Degree programs: completion of BC English 12, or equivalent; or completion, with a grade of "C+" or better, advanced core courses in the Selkirk College English Language Program and Provincial Level English 51; or submission of a TOEFL score of 213 (computer) or ibt 79-80 or better; or submission of an IELTS score of 6.0 or better; or submission of an EIKEN Grade Pre -1; or submission of an acceptable score on the Language Proficiency Index score of 4 or better. For Indian students coming through the SPP program, the IELTS requirement for diploma programs is 6.0 with no band less than 5.5.
