Description:

Humber’s Funeral Director Class 2 (Non-Embalming) diploma program draws students who want to make a difference in the lives of people who are grieving the loss of a loved one. This is the only English-speaking Funeral Director, Class 2 program in Ontario.



Courses are designed with industry input, ensuring that what you’re learning is current and relevant. You will learn all aspects of funeral home operation, as well as the practical and theoretical sides of funeral service. Courses in issues of grief and bereavement prepare you for the emotional side while courses in arranging, ethics and introduction to embalming will enable you to explain all options to families in arrangements. Business courses will help you understand the challenges of operating a business.

Prerequisites:

These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school.
  •  Grade12 English 
To be eligible for admission, you must possess the following:


- Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent including these required courses:


- Grade 12 English (ENG4C or ENG4U or equivalent)


- Three Grade 11 or Grade 12 C, M or U courses in addition to those listed above

Mature student status


or


College or university transfer status

Test Scores:
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (Paper Based) [min. 550] or International English Language Testing System (academic or immigration) [min. 6.0] or Test of English as a Foreign Language (Internet Based) [min. 80]

Applicants are required to submit a letter of intent, resume, and a questionnaire that demonstrates evidence of observation or work experience in a funeral home.


The pre-requisite requirements must be fulfilled before the commencement of your placement. Participation in placements will not be allowed if not all the pre-requisite requirements are met. People interested in this program should be aware that a full G Driver's License is required by most funeral establishments to be eligible for an internship placement.
