Description:

All students spend the first two years following the same core programme of studies. This provides the fundamental knowledge and the intellectual and practical skills required by all mechanical engineers. It also includes developing your skills in workshop practice, and conducting your own ‘design, make and test’ projects in both years. In the third year, you begin to specialise in nuclear engineering with modules covering a basic introduction to nuclear energy and the basic chemical engineering techniques in fuel production, fuel processing and waste management. This nuclear specialisation continues in the fourth year with modules covering heat transfer and fluid flow in reactor systems, the physics of the nuclear processes relating to reactor design and operation, and nuclear materials.
