Description:

Mechanical Engineering Technology – Industrial (Fast Track) will allow you, if you are a qualified mechanical engineering college or university graduate, direct admission into year two (semester three) of this three-year program. As such, you will receive your Technology diploma in two years (four semesters). The shortened delivery of the offering will allow you to bypass subjects of which you will already have knowledge. As such, you will focus on engineering theory and practice that emphasizes the design and development of various mechanical devices and equipment through intermediate to advanced computer-assisted design and manufacturing. This School of Engineering Technology and Applied Science program will take a project approach that will see about one-quarter of your time spent on practical application. These projects will simulate workplace assignments by relating classroom theory to the actual design, manufacture and testing of mechanical systems. In fact, capstone project courses will teach you to plan, schedule, create, design and build projects in a teamwork environment using a machine shop, CNC machines and rapid prototyping equipment.

Additionally, you will develop strong computer-aided drafting (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) skills using the latest industry software. While the first two years of this Mechanical Engineering Technology - Industrial (Fast Track) program will be built on the strength and engineering principles of the Mechanical Engineering Technology - Design program, the final year will focus on: Advanced operations systems; Shop floor control; Production management; Basic accounting; Quality assurance using Six Sigma principles and standards. Please note: If you are ready to launch your career, you may step into the workplace and gain real-world exposure to leading edge technologies through a one-year work term by choosing the Mechanical Engineering Technology – Industrial (Fast Track/ PTY) offering (program #3748).
